It's set in the early days of auto racing, when it was presumably not as preposterous at it would be today for our hero to be simultaneously a top racing driver, a factory manager, and a brilliant engineer. It's fairly predictable that the hero and heroine will fall in love and live happily ever after, but there are a couple plot twists along the way and the whole thing kept my attention.From the Car Behind is a sequel to this book, but with largely a different cast of characters.
