Bike Lane A Road Rage Tale edition by Hugh Gentry Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Road rage seems to be a spur of the moment reaction of drivers who think they've been wronged. But this macabre tale uses more twists and turns than Highway 1 along California's central coast to prove that that truism does not always hold fast.
Hugh Gentry submitted "Bike Lane" to be reviewed at Short Fiction Spotlight.
Hugh Gentry's (great name, by the way) "Bike Lane" is an impressively-spun yarn about Juan, an avid biker who, because of a string of poor decisions, faces the wrath of a man hell bent on vengeance.
This was an excellently written short story. It hooked me in the beginning with a solid immediate scene, kept my attention while providing some background and characterization to Juan, and ended satisfactorily. I feel the ending was a bit anticlimactic. I was expecting an ending with slightly larger "oomph," but this one served the story well.
Gentry writes in a clear, concise manner, using lots of short, staccato sentences mixed with some additional clauses for greater depth and detail. The descriptions were done well, not overly described nor lacking, and I understood what was happening and when.
Other than a few missing words and punctuation that was in the wrong place, this was a very enjoyable read. The suspense genre was represented well, and Hugh did a great job of unpeeling the layers of the story for the reveal at the close. I do recommend that Hugh add some sort of section break symbol to denote each section clearly. With an e-reader, the spaces don't always translate properly.
Nice job on this story, Hugh.
Great read with surprising twists and turns (no pun intended). First work I have read by Gentry and plan to read more-
Easy read. Interesting and dark character development. Looks like Juan will continue to pay for his past improprieties. Is there more to follow?
